Classic Cuban Recipe Series: Picadillo

This Classic Cuban Recipe Series was a way for us to go back to our mission.

The mission of this blog has been to help preserve the recipes that we grew up making and enjoying with our Abuelas. Our Abuelas instilled in us a sense of pride when it comes to gathering family and feeding them something from the heart.

We wanted to take this education in the kitchen and really share it with everyone. If not for our Abuelas, moms, tias and other amazing women, we never would have found our way through some of these recipes. The kitchen can be an intimidating place. It’s not always easy cooking for yourself, or feeding others.

Classic Cuban Recipe Series: Picadillo

We made a Classic Cuban Series on our You Tube Channel, that is dedicated to the core Cuban recipes that we grew up eating. These are the recipes that we feel really capture Cuban cooking and food. They also happen to be the most searched recipes on our blog, and we get it. Each video is going to walk you through the recipe and give you the confidence to take it on in your kitchen!

Our first recipe is, Classic Cuban Picadillo. Picadillo is one of the cornerstone recipes of Cuban food. It is ground beef mixed in a classic Cuban sofrito cooked and simmered along with olives, potatoes and raisins (controversially).

In the video we give a few tips and tricks that will help you bring a ton of flavor. We are also showing you all the ways you can take this recipe and make it your own. The idea being that once you watch this video you will be able to take this Picadillo recipe and put your own spin on it and find ways to make it part of your traditions.

If you can make it to the end we show you all our favorite leftover ideas. They can show you different ways to transform your picadillo leftover into something new and fresh. Find our Picadillo Leftover Ideas HERE.
