Healthy Greek Yogurt Tuna Salad

This Greek Yogurt Tuna Salad is quick and easy to do and it is packed with protein and veggies making it a great healthy lunch option.

Why Make This Healthy Greek Yogurt Tuna Salad

This fresh and healthy tuna salad gets its creaminess from tangy Greek yogurt and Dijon mustard. Grated fresh veggies and herbs add beautiful colors and lots of crunchy texture to the tuna. This recipe can be put together quickly and is perfect for a light lunch or snack.

Tuna is the ultimate pantry staple. It is versatile and packs a healthy punch with lots of omega-3 fatty acids and protein. But not all tuna is packed equally. We like to make tuna salad from yellowfin tuna, albacore or Ventresca (the belly). Great quality tuna makes great tuna salad.

Jars of Tuna vs Canned Tuna:

We like using Tonnino or Ortiz brands for tuna. They both have quality tuna fillets jarred and packed in water. Their tuna are whole fillets that are firm but delicate once broken apart. Their tuna packed in olive oil is delicious and much more decadent.

Canned tuna is also a great option for tuna salad just read the labels. They tenned to have a little more sodium and not use the best quality for the can. Stick to the types of tuna we mentioned above for a more heart healthy option whether it is jarred or canned.

Greek Yogurt vs Mayo:

We like using Greek yogurt in our tuna salad because it adds protein and gives it a tangy edge. Mayonnaise is a lot heavier and tends to weigh down the tuna so you won’t be able to appreciate the taste of the fish as much.

If you are staying away from dairy just sub with the mayo. This tuna salad isn’t meant to be very creamy but it does need something to bring it together.

Greek Yogurt Tuna Salad Tips:

  • Pairing the tuna with fresh veggies lightens it up and makes it taste less “fishy”
  • Make a few hours before serving if you have the time. It tastes even better once it sits.
  • Add whatever veggies and herbs you prefer.
  • You can substitute the lemon in this recipe for lime juice or vinegar.
  • Variations can be made by adding dried cherries or nuts in addition to the ingredients listed.

Serve this tuna salad in a sandwich, with crackers or leafy lettuce for a carb-free lunch or snack. Consider adding this tuna to our Codito Salad for a very creamy tuna pasta salad. We love a scoop of this tuna with our Zoodle Salad,   Asparagus and Pea Salad , Spring Salad,   Summer Chopped Salad.
