Quick Tuna Tostadas Recipe

This Quick Tuna Tostadas Recipe combines a crunchy corn tortilla with tender fresh tuna. These tostadas are Mexican inspired and celebrates fresh ingredients and delicious textures. 

The fresh tuna is simply seasoned with soy, citrus and herbs. We start by slathering spicy chipotle crema over the tostada and topping the tuna with a refreshing slaw. You can garnish with more herbs and fresh veggies while continuing to highlight the tuna. 

What Are Tuna Tostadas

Tuna Tostadas are a very popular Mexican dish, that are essentially a tostada (corn tortilla) topped with tuna. It can be made with different types of tuna in different styles, but in this recipe we wanted to use fresh tuna.

These tuna tostadas are the perfect summer dish but they can be enjoyed in every season. Refreshing in the hot spring days and just as perfect in the winter when fresh tuna is at its peek. 

There is only one secret to making tostadas. Do what you like! As you can tell from long list of garnishes, you can really make these tostadas uniquely tailored to you. We like adding ingredients that will complement the tuna and add flavor and texture. Serving alongside our Tomato salsa and Mango salsa

Quick Tuna Tostada Tips: 

Cut the tuna evenly, which will help the seasoning and herbs coat every piece. 

If you feel like you can’t chop the tuna evenly or are short on time, you can slice the tuna instead. It will still taste delicious. 

Serve the tostada immediately. This will avoid the tostada becoming soggy and falling apart. 

If you don’t have tostadas use chips or even hard shell tacos. You can still drizzle the chipotle crema and add the slaw to either alternative.

Tuna Ingredients

  • 16 ounces of sushi grade or fresh ahí tuna

  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice 

  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce 

  • 1/2 cup green onion, sliced thin

  • 1/4 cup of cilantro, finely chopped 

  • 8 corn tostadas

  • Chipotle Crema Ingredients: 
  • Mexican crema or sour cream 

  • 1 tablespoon of adobo sauce from canned chipotles 

  • Salt and freshly cracked pepper

  • Slaw Ingredients: 
  • 1 cup of shredded lettuce 

  • 1/2 cup of shredded cabbage 

  • 1 tablespoon of avocado or olive oil

  • Zest and juice of a lemon 

  • Salt and freshly cracked pepper 

Directions

  • Dice the tuna into small 1/4-inch pieces.
  • Place in a glass bowl. Add the soy sauce, lime juice, green onion, salt and pepper. Toss together and set aside in the fridge to keep the tuna cold. 
  • In a small bowl add the crema, chipotle, salt and pepper. Whisk together and set aside. If you want it spicier add more chipotle. 
  • In another bowl add the lettuce, cabbage, oil, lemon zest and juice. Toss together. Add salt and pepper and set aside. 
  • At this point, everything is set and you can leave it all in the fridge until you are ready to serve. 
  • Once you are ready to assemble spread the chipotle crema over the tortilla. Add 1-2 tablespoons of the tuna. Then top with the fresh slaw. 
  • Garnish with your choice of toppings. We love adding more cilantro, pickled onions and radishes for color and texture.
